The day is November 1, 1947. The Ohio State Buckeyes are losing to Indiana at Ohio Stadium. Matthew Sidley, an ex-Navy sailor turned cheerleader, activated the crowd with the coveted chant he created with his comrades while stationed overseas. “O-H! I-O!” energized thousands that day and became an instant legacy. IYKYK.
In fact, according to OSU record, team members would even deem the year 1947 a turning point in Ohio State football.
We happen to be big fans of 1947, too. It’s the year our very own business took off in the streets outside of Fenway Park, inspired by the energy of our own local sports fandom. And here we are, 73 years later –– still electrified by fans from every region.
