Celebrating self-expression is in ’47’s DNA, and music is one of the greatest avenues for it. As regulars of the Boston Calling Music Festival, every year we look forward to meeting artists and fans in our own backyard for one of the best parties of the year. This excitement led us to make some new friends in the lineup already –– Philadelphia residing, honorary Bostonians –– The Menzingers.

Speaking of brotherly love –– hometown buddies and bandmates Greg, Tom, Joe, and Eric from Scranton, PA found a spot in South Philly’s notable punk rock scene, living their passion and eventually sharing it with the world for over a decade. Boston, a frequent stop on tours, developed quite the affinity for their music which led to the band’s inevitable, mutual affinity for Boston (and who could blame ’em?).

Authenticity and passion paid off when the band saw its first big break at The Fest ’08 in Gainesville, Florida –– so the musical atmosphere like that of Boston Calling has always carried a special sentiment for this talented crew.

Boston and Philly may partake in the occasional *banter* but these cities are plenty alike: significant American history, gritty work ethic, and serious sports devotees from camaraderie-filled communities. Our music fandom isn’t shabby either.

As The Menzingers take that familiar road trip up to Boston Calling this weekend, ’47 and the Boston community is stoked to welcome them to one of their biggest stages yet:

From May 25-27, the Harvard Athletic Complex will be filled with the energy of fans and artists like The Menzingers. See their set at 2:00 on Saturday at the Red Stage and if you stop by the ’47 Fan Cave at the right time –– you may even get a chance to meet our new friends and take home some exclusive festival memorabilia.

Stay tuned to our social channels for all sorts of fun, all weekend long.
