With a scholarship to Oklahoma State University to play under coveted coach Eddie Sutton, 3 NCAA tournaments, a first-round draft pick, 10 years in the NBA and one slam dunk contest win later –– it’s easy to say that basketball had always been Desmond Mason’s calling.
In a retirement filled with family, friends, and root-planting closer to his alma mater, Desmond has also been pursuing his passion to create art. It’d be easy to assume he’s a basketball star turned artist — but it’s actually quite the opposite.
Growing up in Waxahachie, Texas, like many of us in our youth, Desmond found solace in doing something that really let him overcome adversity and express himself. That something was art.
’47 partnered up with our friend Desmond on several collections that not only spotlight Desmond’s artistic talent, but also celebrates his meaningful connection to Oklahoma and its collegiate communities.
